Chapter 1
Long ago, there existed a land divided into four countries: Sou, Kou, Do, and Ah.
The King of Ah took on a wife from Kou and soon thereafter one from Do, creating a shaky alliance between the three nations. When the Second Queen gave birth to a son, the King cast aside the sickly First Queen and her daughter Aki into the depths of the Palace. But as Fate would have it, Princess Aki encounters a slave named Hakusei, who has peculiar golden hair and sky blue eyes. He promises his life to her and helps her train in the Six Arts under the guidance of the enigmatic merchant Seitetsu; however, when Princess Aki outshines the Prince during a hunt in an attempt to gain her father's acknowledgement, she sparks a war by besmirching Do's honor and drives the Second Queen to poison her mother.

Princess Aki was then banished to Kou country, to serve as a hostage for Ah. The country was the origin of the deceased First Queen. Although the reigning King of Kou is the grandfather of Princess Aki, the princess and her servant wasn't a welcomed guest. King of Kou held the memory of her beloved daughter, the deceased First Queen of Ah, very dear. It was no comfort to him to receive the daughter of his beloved daughter amidst rumour that Princess Aki was the one who poisoned the queen. Princess Aki however, did not mind this, she has given up on any want for affection from her family.

Soon after the incident, the kingdom of Do decided to wage war upon Kou. The King of Ah, who have an alliance with Do through the Second Queen, and a daughter held hostage in Kou country decided to ally himself with Do and abandon his daughter to the country of Kou. His decision made the hostage status for Princess Aki turned prisoner. One night, Hakusei managed to free Princess Aki from imprisonment and escape from Kou. They were about to return to Ah when they encountered Seitetsu. Seitetsu encouraged them to return to Kou, and fight to live instead of walking to their condemned death in Ah.

After a series of emotional battle, Princess Aki and Hakusei returned to Kou country, enduring the King of Kou's quick mock. Princess Aki then made a deal, to join them in battle, as the means to be a useful hostage/prisoner, in exchange for her life. The King of Kou agreed to it, subtly mention the virtues his deceased daughter once had, the hinted that he does have affection for his prisoner granddaughter, Princess Aki.

King of Kou,
