Mononoke [04] Sea Bishop: Part 2

Umizatou's question

 Let them come, for my invitation is what they fear the most.

             Picking up of her previous suspicion towards Kusuriuri's amusement at the situation, Kayo the seamstress asked Kusuriuri directly if he was indeed the culprit who led them to the Dragon's Triangle. Kusuriuri however vaguely replied to the question and brushes it off soon after.

             Ayakashi is different than Mononoke. Ayakashi refers to spirits and ghosts in general whereas Mononoke refers to vengeful ones. The kinds that have a strong hatred for humans.

             While explaining terms and other things, the passenger's heard a strange sound coming from the ship's dock. Samurai and Minstrel immediately rushed to see what it was. Kayo on the other hand stayed to invite Kusuriuri to chck the commotion, although she was declined. At the dock, the passengers saw an ayakashi flying towards them: the Umizatou.

The Umizatou asked each of them a question: What is it that you fear?

             The Merchant, who was first to answer tried to lie but he failed and later admitted that he was most fearful of becoming penniless. As such, he threw up expensive gold fishes from his mouth that he apparently swallowed to carry them over to Edo. Next was the samurai. He replied with "I fear nothing". What he saw later was an illusion of all his previous victims coming back to haunt him. Kayo was next and she replied with fearing a future where she couldn't find herself a husband nor begets a child. Umizatou then showed her a vision of her giving birth to a monster.

             Minstrel was next and he lied saying he feared pastries the most. In his hallucination, he ate a delicious pastries but soon realizes that it wasn't pastries, hence gave him an upset stomach that he threw up. Kusuriuri volunteered to be next, and his fears was having the knowledge that somewhere in this world there are things that does not exist in Form, Truth, and Regret. He then demanded the Retainer to go next. Retainer, in his cowardly state revealed that he fears Monk the most as he knew Monk was the one who tampered with the compass and led them to Dragon's Triangle.

             Monk admitted to the crime, adding that his fear was the thing that causes the Dragon Triangle to form; his dead sister, Oyou. He explained that Oyou took his place into a ship known as Utsurobune. The ship is made of a hollow tree and once someone gets in, they won't be able to get out. His sister, during her voyage was lost at sea and become vengeful of her fate and thus turned into a mononoke.

             Lighting struck and an Utsurobune mononoke appeared before them. The Utsurobune trembled, a sign of someone coming out of it.
Kusuriuri then said, "The Form is arriving."
